The purpose of insulating the card is to ensure that, during benchmarking, water and cond ensation do not cause damage to our equipment. Some people do not use any insulation at all apart from cloths and paper towels, but we must remember that insulation will not harm us, and it can reduce the risk of damaging the equipment.
1. Eraser
This method is very simple. A kneaded eraser behaves like modeling clay, which allows us to shape it and stretch it across the PCB. We can use it to cover the entire PCB (except for components that dissipate heat, such as the VRM, memory, and core), making our insulation airtight. The only good kneaded eraser is the Faber-Castell Art Eraser; don’t waste your money buying others, unless there is another one worth considering.
2. Plastidip/Let
Plasti Dip can be purchased in a can as a liquid or in a spray can. In liquid form, we can apply it using a cotton swab, a syringe, a small brush, and in hard-to-reach places with a toothpick. When using the spray version, we must protect all contacts before application, such as the PCIe connector and the SLI/CrossFire connectors.Liquid Electrical Tape usually comes in cans, sometimes in tubes, and is applied in exactly the same way as liquid Plasti Dip.Plastidip/LET is probably the fastest insulation method (not counting the drying time) and also one of the easiest to remove. It is enough to lift it with a toothpick, and it comes off in whole pieces.
